Peraturan Dan Keselamatan Makmal Sains

1. Students are only allowed into the laboratory with the permission of a lecturer or a laboratory staff.
2. Apparatus and chemicals are to be used only with the permission of a lecturer. In each experiment, students must follow the instructions given.
3. Students are not allowed to take out any apparatus or chemicals from the laboratory.
4. Dress appropriately during laboratory activities. Long loose hair must be tied back. Dangling jewellery and baggy clothing must be properly secured. Shoes must be completely covering the foot. No sandals are allowed.
5. Wear safety glasses / goggles when conducting experiments. Laboratory coats are required to avoid staining or ruining your clothing.
6. If any chemical substance is accidentally swallowed, spit it out immediately and rinse your mouth with water.
7. If any chemical comes into contact with the skin or clothing, wash immediately under running water.
8. All accidents, such as cuts, wounds and oral intake of chemicals must be reported to the lecturer on duty immediately.
9. All apparatus must be cleaned after being used.
10. All apparatus and specimens must be returned to their original position after being used.
11. Any breakage or malfunction of apparatus must be reported to the lecturer or  the laboratory staff on duty.
12. Bunsen burners and spirit lamps must only be lighted with a lighter.
13. In case of fire, the ‘Fire Fighting Regulation‘ must be followed.
14. Put out the fire on burning materials before throwing them into  the dustbin.
15. Do not throw rubbish or solid waste into the sink. Organic waste should be disposed into the bottle provided.
16. Leave bags outside the laboratory. Only books and study aids are allowed in the laboratory during lessons.
17. Only lecturers are allowed access to the first aid kit.
18. Food and drinks are not allowed into the laboratory. Do not engage in horseplay such as tickling, throwing objects, squirting water  etc. These types of behaviour may cause serious laboratory accidents.
19. Students should always take great caution in the laboratory to avoid any accident.
20. Use chemicals only as needed during experiments.
21. Use spatula for solid chemicals. Note : Avoid using the same spatula for different chemicals.
22. Reagent bottles must be closed immediately after use.
23. Do not inhale or take any chemicals orally, as they might be poisonous or corrosive.
24. Be sure the correct voltage is set when using electrical equipment.
25. Electrical equipment / apparatus must be firmly connected. Poor connections may lead to inaccurate readings.
26. The main power supply should be switched off before disconnecting electrical equipment to avoid electrical shock.
27. The laboratory tables must be kept clean and tidy.
28. Wash hands thoroughly before leaving the laboratory.
29. Never work alone in the laboratory.
   
USE OF BIOLOGICAL SPECIMENS
30. Dissected specimens must be collected and buried.
31. Do not open sealed petri dish containing microorganism cultures.
32. If a petri dish containing microorganism cultures is cracked or broken, report it to the lecturer immediately.
